Birmingham Local Conservatives have called on Birmingham City Council to urgently prepare a public screening of the UEFA Europa League Final, following Aston Villa’s historic qualification for the fixture.
In an open letter to Council leaders, Councillor Alex Yip urged the authority to work proactively with West Midlands Police, transport authorities, licensing teams and Aston Villa Football Club to ensure Birmingham is ready to host a safe, accessible and family-friendly public celebration.
Cllr Yip said the final represents a major opportunity for the city, bringing residents together while supporting local businesses, hospitality venues, pubs, restaurants, hotels, taxis and retailers through increased footfall.
He also called for Gary Shaw, the only Brummie in Aston Villa’s 1982 European Cup-winning team, to be recognised on one of Birmingham’s Stars of Fame on Broad Street.
