LABOUR REFUSE TO ACCEPT DEMOCRATIC VOTE

Enforce the Vote of No Confidence in Birmingham City Council’s Labour Leader

On Tuesday 24 March 2026, opposition parties passed a Local Conservative led motion of no confidence in the Labour leader of Birmingham City Council. The motion stated that the Labour administration has broken Birmingham City Council through years of mismanagement.

Birmingham City Council’s constitution is clear that a simple majority vote of no confidence removes the Leader from office with immediate effect.

Despite this democratic decision, the Labour group is refusing to accept the outcome, squatting in the council house and continuing to act as if the vote never happened.

Sign this petition to uphold democracy and accountability in Birmingham.

Uphold Democracy

We demand that the Council immediately respects and enforces the vote of no confidence, ensuring proper governance ahead of the May local elections.

No-Confidence Vote a “Nail in the Coffin of Democracy” as Labour Refuses to Accept Council’s Democratic Decision

Tuesday, 31 March, 2026
Birmingham Local Conservatives have today warned that Labour’s refusal to respect last week’s decisive no-confidence vote is a clear and dangerous signal that the party will not accept the democratic will of the council if it ends up in no overall control after the May elections.
