BIRMINGHAM HOMES FOR BIRMINGHAM PEOPLE
Birmingham’s social homes are a scarce resource. With high demand for social housing and private rents putting pressure on household budgets, we believe people in housing need who have put down roots in Birmingham should be given priority.
With Birmingham City Council preparing to change its Housing Allocation Scheme we want to see the number of years you have a local connection to an area increased from 2 years to 10 years. This would help ensure that Birmingham Council Housing goes to Brummies.
We, the undersigned, call on Birmingham City Council to introduce a ten-year local connection rule for access to its housing register, subject to exemptions required by law and appropriate safeguards for exceptional circumstances.
We believe that when social housing is in such short supply, a strong and lasting connection to Birmingham should count.
If you’ve put down roots in Birmingham, Birmingham should stand by you.
