The Labour Council have announced that Union Jack and St George's Cross flags, flown by residents in public places across the city, will be cut down on 'safety grounds' . This is despite the Council having allowed flags of other nations to be flown across the City for the last two years.
Indeed, earlier this year, the Council confirmed that even flyposting causing a visual obstruction at junctions, such as on traffic lights, can take up to six months to be removed. Yet when it is our national flags, suddenly the Labour-run Council are rushing out to rip them down. This is shameful behaviour.
When we see our national flags flying, it fills us with pride in our country, our history our shared achievements through the centuries. Our flags are nothing to be ashamed of, and Labour should stop acting as if they are.
Therefore, we are calling on the Council to cut down all flyposting in the city before they even think about taking down one of our national flags.
